About the University

Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU) founded in 1930, is one of the largest and most prestigious higher educational establishments in the country. There are 5 faculties which include: General Medicine, Medical Prophylactics, Dentistry, Military Medicine, Pharmaceutic.

There are currently 8000 students (including 1171 foreign students) studying at the university. The courses are taught through 74 academic departments by a comprehensive staff of over 1628 trained professionals. AMU has prepared more than 63,000 fully qualified doctors and pharmacists both for Azerbaijan and Foreign countries. Quantitative and qualitative indices of the AMU on preparing skilled doctors and medical scientists are comparable to those of some leading countries.

Teaching staff of the University includes 3 Members of the Academy of Sciences (Academicians), 4 Associate Members of Sciences (Associated Academicians), 184 doctors of sciences (DM), 993 PhD-s, 18 honored scientific workers, 22 honored doctors. AMU is the member of Trans-European cooperation between European Union, Central and Eastern European and Eastern Asia countries on TEMPUS program in the sphere of Higher Education, Magna Charta Universitatum, BRIMEA.

The University regularly carries out academic exchange and scientific research cooperation with over 30 universities and institutions from over 20 foreign countries. AMU's three educational programs, "General Medicine," "Pharmacy," and "Dentistry," received a 5-year International Accreditation Certificate in 2022. The International Accredited Body was IAAR, which is recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education WFME.
